The Nucleus of Research and Development in Financial Literacy (DENARIUS) has as its mission , to teach, research, and disseminate concepts of financial education promoting scientific development and improving the community’s economic, financial, and social realities.
DENARIUS’ specific goals are:
- Education: to instruct and teach financial literacy concepts using new information and communication technologies (NTICs);
- Research: to develop, collaborate, generate, refute, enlarge, detail and to update financial education knowledge and its essential elements;
- Extension Programs: to provide and disseminate financial education concepts between the internal university community and the community external to it, aiming at promoting improvements in economic, financial, and social realities and encouraging entrepreneurial behavior.
In order to reach these objectives, the Nucleus is coordinated by an adviser who guides the action of four research fields: the Economy Field studies the relationship among economic topics – such as consumer theory, microeconomics, and macroeconomics – and financial literacy; while the Finance Field studies the relationship among financial literacy and personal finance, behavioral finance, athematical finance, among others.
The two remaining research fields study means to teach financial literacy concepts using new information and communication technologies (Education Field), and to disseminate concepts to promote improvements in economic, financial, and social reality encouraging entrepreneurial behavior (Special Projects Field).
The Nucleus also carries out a financial education project with high school students from public schools in the city of Itajubá, Minas Gerais.
