Understanding climate and weather.
The program is dedicated to turning students into highly skilled professionals, capable of working in different areas of the Atmospheric Sciences and of contributing to minimize environmental problems.
The Atmospheric Sciences program studies the atmosphere and its relations with the other components of the climatic system (biosphere, cryosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere). In this context, the program develops research in the fields of atmospheric pollution, ocean-atmosphere interaction, weather analysis and forecast, atmospheric radiation, atmospheric electricity, agrometeorology, climate change, among other subjects.
UNIFEI’s Atmospheric Sciences program is significant in developing professionals for the job market and its existing problems. Some of its advantages over other Brazilian programs are the physical closeness and the development of joint research with the largest Center for Weather Forecasting and Climate Studies (Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos, CPTEC) in the Southern Hemisphere, which is part of the National Institute for Space Research (Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais, INPE).
Located only 80 km away from Itajubá, CPTEC/INPE has a scientific agreement with UNIFEI and offers opportunities of internship, graduate studies, faculty and student exchange, and the development of scientific research in local areas of interest. UNIFEI’s Atmospheric Sciences program is also partnered with the University of São Paulo (Universidade de São Paulo, USP) e com o Centro Nacional de Monitoramento e Alerta de Desastres Naturais (CEMADEN). The program’s curriculum also allows students to work in Entrepreneurship and Development of New Business, as well as in the energy sector, through different elective subjects on these themes.
